Thorvald et al,
I had no luck recovering the position with help from Support. Here is the e-mail response I received from Hans in Support:
"Maybe the problem is caused by system recovery on your computer.
Here you can download version 13.04:
http://update.dietrichs.at/v13patch/d-patch1304_en.zip
In this version it should not happen anymore."

I have an empty project position upon starting my computer. The position shows in the menu but the preview is blank and the position appears empty in DCAM. All was there when I closed the file yesterday. The gbd, gbs, gfk, pla, and plf files for the position are still in the project file.
I did change the "comment" for the position (right click on project position) before trying to open it but didn't notice if there was a preview or not.
Replacing the gbd file with a backed up version (as per Thorvalds earlier post) did not work.

Thanks for the info. A few more questions:
Are there any compatibility issues with Windows 8.1?
Are menu icons visible with 3200 x 1800 screen resolution?
-
Hi,
What are the current hardware recommendations and requirements?
Also, does anyone have recommendations for 15" laptops and video cards? Are there good options other than Quadro cards?
Thanks,
Peter

I just installed v12.02 and all my Timber List units are metric. How do I change these to ft/in? (Connector lists are in ft/in. )
Thanks.
-
Thanks for the tip. I only work with D-Cam, but I can draw it in D-CAD and extrude in D-Cam.
-
I'd like to create as close to a fair curve as I can for some "root knees" I'm drawing. I recall that somewhere I can change the curve segmentaion. Where is this and what do I need to change?
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks, Wil. The file you sent works fine, but when I place it in the library and then insert it, it doesn't work right. See screen shot with both figures.
Peter
-
Wil,
Is that suppossed to be a .zip file? I can't open it.
Jim,
My previous woody figures don't work right with v11 - as if he has parts which aren't in the updated database maybe???
Please pass on the 3 versions you have.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi,
Does anyone have a "Woody" 3D figures? My previous figure is missing parts in v11.
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the offer, Jim.
I found if I import into a new, blank project, it works fine. Then I can bring it in to the project via the library or save section/insert.
-
Thanks. I can work with this. I wish I could make the import work with the version I have now. Maybe I have to wait for v10?
-
Here is the DCAD drawing. I'm trying to import into DCAM v 9.04.
-
When importing a 2D curved beam from DCAD (for extrusion), the lines are not all imported into the same plane. The curved lines are in one plane and the other lines are in a parallel plane. I've double-checked that all lines are connected before exporting. Also, the lines import rotated 90 degrees (vertical rather than horizontal). How do I get this to import correctly?
-
When trying to connect with a tenon, I get the following warning:
"The section line is not closed!"
What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Thanks,
Peter
-
Jason et al,
Wil sent me 9.03 to try out. As you found, it did fix the lines from the tenon. I am still getting a few lines between drillings on the post. I can get rid of them by deleting the joinery on either the brace or the beam, but with both joined, I get the extra lines.
Peter
-
Jason,
Here's the sample that showed extra lines.
Peter

Dan,
Thanks for the info how to get rid of the lines.
There was no assisting geometry in the Deitrichs model. I've tried exporting many projects and all have some extra lines. They all seem to be associated with processes: tenons, cuts, drillings.

Dan,
Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately, I still have lines extending along surfaces from some joinery. I have attached a sample SketchUp file showing the extra lines.

I have just started working the 3DS export into SketchUp. Sometimes I end up with extra lines on the surface of timbers. The diagonal ones I can get rid of by "softening edges", but I still get some lines starting at joinery and running parallel to the axis of the timbers. Any ideas on how to get rid of these?
