    The job - This is an exceptional opportunity to work for a progressive, award-winning design and construction company in a dual design / research role. You will be working for Oakwright’s, one of the most innovative timber companies in the UK using state of the art software and leading edge CNC CAD/CAM hardware. The work, based mainly at the Company’s offices in Hereford, will be to develop a long-term, in-house structural engineering capability and research and develop innovative eco-panel walls leading to engineering the production of the panel system.


    You will be working in collaboration with world-class researchers at the University of Bath on a 30 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership to develop the innovative, low carbon insulated cladding panel system to enable the Company to continue to operate at the forefront of high quality Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). The reward package includes a salary of up to £30,000 (depending on qualifications and experience), a separate personal training and development budget of £4375, formal management training to diploma level and the opportunity to achieve an MPhil qualification. On successful completion of the project it is highly likely that you will be offered a permanent position with the company.

    The ideal Associate will be a civil or structural engineer, with a first class, 2.1 or higher university degree in an appropriate field. This will be an opportunity for either a recent graduate, early career engineer working towards professional status or a recently chartered engineer. A strong interest in and commitment to timber engineering and ecological building is essential. As are excellent technical (structural engineering) skills combined with a pragmatic attitude to design encompassing Oakwright’s approach to building. We would also expect you to demonstrate; enthusiasm, curiosity, the ability to work effectively in a team-based structure, accuracy, the ability to work with good quality control, excellent communication skills (verbal, written and IT), project and time management skills, personal ambition and self-motivation to drive the project forward with minimum supervision within agreed and directed task boundaries, readiness to undertake the travel necessary for training and personal development, site, client and research visits.
