I was intrigued by the jpg you attached of the cut command dialog box.

It has a small green printer icon at the top. Does this feature appear on all your dialog boxes? What version are you using? Does this print the dialog box directly?

It's funny because this was a feature I mentioned to Markus as being very useful about five years ago.

I was using Allplan from Nemetschek at the time and this is a feature they had and I used it a great deal.

However, I am using the latest beta 6.02 and it is not on my dialog boxes at all.

I'd be pleased to be enlightened.

I think it's a known bug which will be fixed with the release of 6.02 - which should be quite soon.

Someone else raised it a while ago. Send a PM to Jens Krause and he will make sure that 6.02 is posted to you as soon as possible.

I am afraid the the Dynamic Library Module (DLM) within Dietrich's will not produce the variety of windows and doors which ArchiCAD will gernerate. It is, after all, primarily a timber frame software package.

You cannot (currently) create you own DLM but I suppose this may happen int he future.

I have attached an image of a building I recently started working on which shows windows and doors produced from my own library (not the DLM) and roof and wall textures.

If I were you I would get a demo from your local Dietrich's sales people as they will be able to show you a lot more than I can.

Where are you based?

Your buildings could all be very easily produced in Dietrich's. The DLM (or dynamic library module will place a window or door in any size of opening ins any thickness of wall. See the attached images for the style of doors and windows available. If you wanted a horizontal bar on you windows however -as in your first illustration - this would have to be added by hand.

Also, no problem at all - you can snap objects to points, lines, perpendicular to lines, midpoints, etc and also cut using these tools.

It sounds to me like Dietrich's is all you need!!!

Yes, there is a parametric library for door and windows. You can also create your own library of items but these will have to be for a fixed size of opening.

There is also a parametric module for staircases.

As far as slabs are concerned, these can also be very easily created in Dietrich's as well as brick or block skins to timber framed buildings.

In architectural terms it is probably not as sohisticated as Allplan, ADT or Vectorworks, but is extremely flexible and adaptable given that it is essentially a tool for timber frame designers and manufacturers.

Welcome to the forum. It's good to have another English speaking user.

Another issue might be is if you have a lot of drillings and you have these visualised.

See command 3-1-02 in DiCAM and turn these off.

This will speed things up a great deal. You only really need them on when checking in OpenGL that nothing clashes.

I don't suppose anyone has created a texture for glulam oak. If they have, and would be prepared to share it, I would be extremely grateful.

If not, can someone tell me how I might go about doing it and I will have a go and post the results.

I would go with the bigger screen. I know it's more weight but unless you plan to hook up to a larger monitor, you'll really feel the benefit.

I would go with a dual core processor, an ATI (or nVidia) graphics card and at least 2GB of ram.

Beyond this size of graphics card memory, processor speed and additional RAM are going to be financially driven decisions and by and large will not affect the performance of Dietrich's, but may well affect the machine's overall perfomance if are are planning on using lots of software at the same time.

As usual, the main bit of advice (however meaningless) is to get the best you can afford!

Yes, you can't set the height anywhere, but the programme must have this data locked somewhere inside it - it would be nice to think the height is about 1.8m - because as soon as you change from centre view to walk through the view changes.

Perhaps Herr Neumann can tell us.
