The few times I have come across this joint I also use 3-8-1 lap Joint. Then I explode the cutout on the purlin and then edit the "Length Position X" & "Length L" on the same cutout to the desired size. You can then use 3-8-4 Notch on the rafter to create the housing.

If you had a lot of these joints a customized smart tag would be very useful!

As far as I understand it is not possible to determine values for a group of beams at this time.

If I need the volume of individual beams or a group of beams I send the beams to project data and automatically create a list and copy it into 2D. This volume will account for the overall size of a rectangle beam.

In D-CAM you can also use "Object Info" and select "Determine Values". This will give you the exact true volume of individual beams including joinery.

Kayaker, as Jim said use 1-5-2 not 1-5-1 for the compass. The compass' were created in a view port so you will not see them if you use 1-5-1.

Ribbonmonkey, use 1-5-1 to select the electrical, sinks, cupboards, etc.

These are just regular library items that come with the program available in all versions.

The items found in D-CAD 1-5-1 & 1-5-2 are 2D lines, not 3D objects therefore cannot be used in Open GL.

After you use the "Export - VRML" 1-05-4 you need to open the .wrl file found in your C:\DIETRICHS07\GIF.

It sound like you are manually backing up each project to one folder on your external hard drive? If you copy the whole project folder to your external hard drive you will not have this problem. I use a back up program called Second Copy http://www.secondcopy.com/. $35.00? There are many options of when and how to back up and I have mine set to do an exact copy of my whole Dietrichs07 folder to my external hard drive.

For now you can also change the project number as previous explained and copy it to your hard drive.

Here is one way:

1. Start a new project
2. Enter your new project number
3. Select the "Copy" button near the bottom of the New Project window
4. Browse to the project that you would like to copy

Now you will have your original project with a new project number. All material list, 2D drawings, etc will also be included.

You can also change the texture set found in object info for select pieces to transparent. This also helps to show joinery more clearly when some pieces are transparent and some solid.

I am not exactly sure what you mean. When in Open GL you can use the number 5 command "translucent objects" and then save the picture as a png file.

You cannot modify the automatic timber list created in D-CAM. From Wall Design you will get the width and height automatically if you select the option to create a Beam List.

The best way to create a timber list with the greatest flexibility is with Project Data. Once you set up the settings you would like to see on a list you then have the ability to create and edit timber lists very quickly! In the attached video you can see the method and settings I am using to create a basic timber list.

You can influence the information that comes in on a single beam drawing by using the "Process", "General settings" and "More Settings" options when outputting a single beam drawing as seen in the below picture. If you check off the selections found in "More Settings" you will then see the beam dimensions, beam length, etc.

If it is not being cut on a machine you could use the method you described but use a copy of the same beam at 90 degrees and then use intersecting volumes as seen in the attached video.

You cannot copy and paste processes but you can copy the beams to a new location, save it to the d-cam library or save it into the wall macro. When you have the same customized joinery on several beams in different locations then a smart-tag is normally the best option. Smart-tags are a group of process used to be created on a beam that are not parametric to another beam. If you use a smart-tag to create a tenon and another smart-tag to create the mortise, the joinery is not parametric.

To answer your previous question about #4 process, you can transfer #4 processes to an object, copy the object to other locations and then reprocess the beams. This is a very useful feature especially for metal connectors. You can read more information on page 6 of the advanced cad design tutorial. I also attached a short movie showing how to transfer drilling's to a metal plate. Once the drilling's are on the plate as a #4 process you can copy the plate to the desired locations and reprocess the beams.

There are many ways to create joinery. I know this does not answer all your questions but for now here is how I would approach this joinery. Hope this helps.

Use the way Planer explained or you can put your powerful D-CAM Premium to work with 6-7 User Defined MOS.

Select one beam in the truss and right click. (follow the instructions in the lower left corner)

If each truss belongs to its own wall use 6-2 MOS set.
