Hello Dietrich's users,
Does anyone have some guidance for me as to how to model the attached barrel dormer? :-k

Hello Dietrich's users,
Does anyone have some guidance for me as to how to model the attached barrel dormer? :-k
Hello Hansi,
most of the work is already done with the 2d section.
the next steps:
- replace the arcs by short straight lines (automatic import to Dicam will also change arcs into lines, but they might be too few, and the look is not really round)
- export the section as dxf.
- set a small wall in front of the dormer, just for the purpose to import the assisting geometry.
- extrude the barrel shape in Dicam
- cut slices with 2-9-1...5, keep the parts you need, and delete the rest.
Hello,
one way could be to export the plan as an DXF drawing and import the plan in free design. You have to use the right import factor. Delete all lines which you don`t need. Then you can extrude (2-5) the assisting geometry. Choose the item number, extrusion direction and the thickness of the component. Than you can choose the internal point and the curved component is build. After that you can copy it to the right place and can go on like usual.
Very cool,
thank you.
Once I have the piece extruded, Is it possible to create the roof shape using the roof module to get a 3D model??
Yes, it's possible since version 7.
Use 2-04 in roof design.
Thank you Der Planer.
waiting for a nice roof picture...
Me Too
Hello Der Planer,
I've extruded my barrel rafter shapes successfully. I've played around with the 2-04 function in roof calc module, but I need more information on how to use the function step by step correctly.
I've attached a png of the building so far.
I can't seem to get the attachment to upload.
I will try jpg
Hans, I'm sorry, I told you a wrong number. Instead of using 2-04 in roof design, it should be 2-03 (direct free roof).
After making the extrusion, be sure to have all roof edge points you need, also those in the rounded valley. Then, with 2-03, you click all points of the roof shape (see the blue line in my picture). The blue line is in 3d, and at the same time the green line will show the ground roof shape.
After selecting the last point in 3d, rightclick, and choose the method "windschief" (skew? warped? curly??) then you define a rafter direction. (this is the direction of all parallel roof lines.
As result, you see one single rounded roof. I hope, you get it!
Wow! Very, very cool
I will try to match your skills. It may take some time! 8O
Thank you for your guidance.
Der Planer,
Is the ground shape of the dormer, (green line) drawn as a building outline in roof calc. Of is it drawn using assisting geometry?
Hello Hans,
there is no building outline needed for this type of roof construction.
First, I created all roof edge points in dicam. Then in roof calculation I turned the building into 3d view, and I only drew the blue roof outline in 3d. The green ground line was made automatically "like a shadow" of the blue line.
still questions?
Thank you.
Maybe later more questions
Allo Der Planer,
I'm almost where I want to be, but yet so far.
I get past the box that asks for create or warp. I chose create and saw that it creates a rectilinear roof. When I ask for warp, I have am at a loss as to how to go about it from there. Whichever choices I make, I can't seem to get the desired result.
If you have more on how I should proceed, I would be very grateful as I've tried now a dozen times.
Eureka!
Thank you Planer and Thank you Wil Dancey
Can you please post the instructions to make Eureka moment?
Will do, just buried under mountains of plans right now!!
