Here is another related question, but this time it is for work. :) Well I was thinking to make some tiles with a specific texture, but the tiles are 30x60 cm - not square. But the texture images are square 512x512 pixels. So should I just make my tile image 256x512???? Then to get the mortar / tile glue lines between the tiles, I could either crop my tile image, so that there is a thin white edge all around the tile - or I could actually lay the tiles and make a panel that illustrates the tile glue between the tiles. The latter option has the advantage that one can change the color of the material between the tiles, white, grey or what match the tiles.

    How would you do it?

    Hi.

Sometimes my mouse's middle button, don't want to open the measure dialog. I need a new mouse also for other reasons, but until then, I was thinking how to customize the tool bars, so that one could get the measure dialog as a button on the tool bar???

Oh and this question is for the construction program. Maybe the same can be done also in the D-Cad program.

    Hi.

I am working for some small projects for the biggest archery shop in Denmark. He would like to get some 3D images of foam targets and how these foam targets gets worn over time as the arrows are shot into the target.

In the beginning I didn't make the actual arrow holes, beause Dietrichs had problems with it. I just put the arrows in and made 2D views without actually cutting the holes. See example here:

But now he is specifically asking if I can make these views in 3D also - and of course I can. At least I would like to. So I made new arrows, where the circular shape is made with less segments. But still I have some problems and I don't understand why. Because in the middle foam center, it cuts some of the holes, but not all. See picture below where the foam is activated and the arrows not. So you can see some holes are cut and some not. I just don't get why??

See also attached position. How to do this in the future so, I can do it in one operation without problems?? What causes the operation to not work properly?

Thank you for the help. Yes, sometimes intersecting volumes drives me crazy - but it is not allways when it come to "round" shapes.

But then I better understand why I could not make an arrow cut a hole in the paper face target, that I had made 0,5 mm thick and the arrow is of course round and with quite a lot of segments and only 7 mm i diameter. In the foam target, I could cut some holes with the arrows, but if I tried with a group of arrows, it didn't cut all holes.

Ok, I will look at to change the beams, and maybe use less segments, when cutting the holes. But if the model works now, I will let it be for now I think - and just try to remember it till next time.

Aaaah now I understand what you mean that you just copied the beams - not mirrored them. Doh - why I did not think of that solution........

    Hi.

    Thank you very much.

I don't know what you mean "in a normal way"? I made the wood beam. For the round cuts I made a material - profiled beam in material database that could make the round cuts. And then I used that with intersecting volumes, to get the roundings.

I don't understand the part "the raw length of a beam is much shorter than it's real length."

Is something fixed in the position you attach? I can see you managed to do the copy. I am thinking about one thing, that maybe could create a too short edge: If you zoom very much in at the area, where the rounding goes over to the straight part, it looks like the rounding does not fit the width of the wood beam perfectly, because the circle is made in segments. Maybe if I used one or two less number of segments, for this rounding, it would not happen?

    Hi.

I have this very small simple project. I want to make wall 3 as a mirrored copy of wall 2. So I put wall 2 in wall macro and in wall 3 I want to insert it mirrored. But program crashes with "float underflow". This also happens if I in D-cam try to mirror the items of wall 2.

    What goes wrong?

Well - I found out that it works fine with 512x512. If I make 1:1 size, then the 3D model will become a little more heavy and picture quality is about the same. Maybe if you blow it up very big, you would see more poor picture quality.

Yes, I checked the backup settings and I know now why, there was no backup from yesterday. Because the backup was set to each 24 hours. But if these 24 hours interval happens when the computer is turned off, of course the backup does not happen. And maybe the 24 hours interval was in the evening, and yesterday evening, I wasn't home, so computer was closed. So now I have changed the setting to back up, at log out (when I close or restart the computer). Another option could be every 12 hours.

    Hi.

I was working on a presentation model of a quite big building. I was actually finished, with windows and everything. Then today, I wanted to add some other facadesolutions. Apparently the 3D model at some point got too heavy for the program or something - at least it crashed. When I opened the model again, it ask me if I want to save the backup as a new position. I said no, because it is my experience that there is normally nothing new in these backup positions. But I found that 7th floor had dissapeared, but I thought, ok there is not so much work in 7th floor. But then quite some time later, when I was finished with 7th floor I realizes that all the windows and doors had dissapeared in all floors....

Is it possible to recreate the model, as it was earlier - or is it too late now? I have checked my external HDD for a backup from yesterday, but found that my backup looks like it is not doing correct. It should take a backup every day - I thought I had set it up to do that - but it looks like not....
