great!! thank you for the thorough explanation.
It is a lot of good info, I'll work with it.
Thank you Planer,

Hi Planer,
thanks for your insight. I did make a copy of the building (I've learned my lesson!!). I had figured from the beginning that I should avoid Free Construction, because our clients tend to change their mind at the last minute (this is our company's curse, and one of the main reasons we got Dietrich's), so that is not being much of a problem.
In fact the roofs and their structures have been the easiest part to change so far, by using 2-9, "table function" in the roof calc module, and then 5-9 , "recalculate roof design" in the roof design module. This is because for the plates calculated in 5-3-2 I use "Distance in Ground G) rather than " Height of Plate's top O"
However the walls are a different story. You speak of building heights as being either local or global. I have a feeling mine are global, hence they are not changing dinamically. Which function is used to set up building heights locally, and can I revert from global to local heights in the current design?
cheers,
Hi all,
I promise this is my last question for the day (week?).
I have basically finished a building, and now the client (after all this time!!) would like one of the middle floors changed in ceiling height by 12".
Is there an efficient way/strategy to deal with all the height changes for ceilings and walls in all the floors above it?
So far, when I change the ceiling height, the walls and ceiling above it plus the roof remain static. Is there anyway for this to happen automatically or do I have to change manually every wall, ceiling, and roof?
cheers,
Thanks Jason, I will try that as well...
cheers,
Thank you Joachim
Hello all,
when saving drawings to plan cad from the ground plan module it seems every single edge from the model is saved into the drawing.
I get up to 6-8 lines of different dimensions overlapping one another. This makes it quite cumbersome and tedious for editing the drawing .When saving to the DXF format the same problem occurs.
Is it possible to save drawings so that only one line shows in the Plan Cad drawing?
cheers,
Goog morning Thorvald,
thak you for your reply. I'll try my best today to do what you say. I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Hi all,
This time I tried activating the whole model first and then using sketch, I was able to get an elevation to PLAN-CAD.
However if you use sketch with your model while non-active, and then select it to activate when prompted to do so the program won't allow you to save the sketch to PLAN-CAD.
Another little quirk?
cheers,
Hello all,
I am trying to get some very simple elevations from my model to PLAN-CAD.
I have tried a section from outside of the building, but it shows every edge in the model. I have tried "object hidden" and "sketch" in D-CAM but when I try to "save the current view" the selection window is greyed-out so I hit OK and get a "no objects selected warning"
If I activate the sketch or hidden object drawing then everything (all edges) show again.
Any ideas how to do this simply?
cheers,
I tried "storey section", but the volume refuses to show anywhere but D-CAM and it also shows in the wall module. It was out of screen range before so I could not see it until I panned around. However I can't see it in ground plan, which is where I would really like to see it
I think I will have to approach the whole thing in a different fashion...
cheers,
Hi Joachim,
as I said, I only see this element in D-CAM, so I must be doing something wrong, just cannot figure out what it is...
I am not familiar with the "storey section" in the ground floor module. how do I access it?
cheers,
bummer!!
hi Rob, thanx for the prompt answer. What you say makes total sense. But, why is this volume not showing anywhere else but in D-CAM?
cheers,
Hi all,
for some reason I am copying a wall in D-CAM and the wall is not showing anywhere in the ground plan module.
According to the MOS info function the wall I am copying is BA wall 20 layer 20, and the resulting copy is BA wall 20 layer 20 as well.
When I go back to ground plan at the BA level I don't see the copied wall anywhere, even though my display style is set to show absolutely everything in the model. It does not show on any other modules either except for D-CAM.
what am i doing wrong? i have tried everything (i think) as per past posts to no avail. please, help
cheers,
hi Planer,
thanks, I took a quick look and it seems, perhaps, the answer I am looking for may be here.
I will take a better look at it tonite.
cheers,
thank you planer,
somehow I missed that, even though I have used that function before with drawing sections 1-5-1...
were you able to look at the attachment I sent to the forum last week (currently last post on "exterior gable dormer sidewall" thread on Timber Design Modules forum)?
I am still cheating my way to be able to produce dormer walls...
cheers,
hi,
to clarify, what i meant to say is whether I can copy a VIEWPORT and its contents from one drawing to another in plan CAD,
thanks
Hi all,
can this be done in D-CAD-2D? how is it done?
cheers,
Hi,
I guess I was too tire last night to remember that I don't need to e-mail attachments!!...
Here is the zgb file.
cheers,
Hi Planer,
my e-mail is not working at home, i will send it to you first thing in the morning from work.
cheers,
Hi,
that is what I don't understand. I created both exterior walls, and dormer walls in TF1...
In any case, what I have done (again, I don't think it is the proper way, but it works) is separate the side walls from the gable wall, and then adjust them another 5.5" to the building outline. In this fashion I get a crisp corner, though the walls are not united.
Planer, how about the question of how I created the side dormer walls? is that the right procedure? (see my previous post)
Cheers,
