  • Hi all,

I promise this is my last question for the day (week?).

I have basically finished a building, and now the client (after all this time!!) would like one of the middle floors changed in ceiling height by 12".

Is there an efficient way/strategy to deal with all the height changes for ceilings and walls in all the floors above it?

So far, when I change the ceiling height, the walls and ceiling above it plus the roof remain static. Is there anyway for this to happen automatically or do I have to change manually every wall, ceiling, and roof?

    cheers,

    Hi jorge,

at first you should make a safety copy of your building!

When you change the floor height (not ceiling height), you are asked, if the wall heights shall be changed automatically, and if door and windows openings shall stay at their height or not.

I think, the best would be to try it with a copy, and learn it by doing.

There are different ways to organize building heights (global or local), and maybe, changings are different, too.

You have to be careful, if there is 'Free Construction' in your building. It will not move automatically with walls or ceilings. If you change the bottom height of walls, or the height of ceilings, all their beams will be pushed automatically, but it's not the same with the roof.

Changing the hight of a roof is not so easy. You must change the roof calculation to the correct values, and then recalculate all roof beams. BUT: If you have free construction, or you made manual changings in the roof, you should better push the roof beams in Dicam.

  • Hi Planer,

thanks for your insight. I did make a copy of the building (I've learned my lesson!!). I had figured from the beginning that I should avoid Free Construction, because our clients tend to change their mind at the last minute (this is our company's curse, and one of the main reasons we got Dietrich's), so that is not being much of a problem.

In fact the roofs and their structures have been the easiest part to change so far, by using 2-9, "table function" in the roof calc module, and then 5-9 , "recalculate roof design" in the roof design module. This is because for the plates calculated in 5-3-2 I use "Distance in Ground G) rather than " Height of Plate's top O"

However the walls are a different story. You speak of building heights as being either local or global. I have a feeling mine are global, hence they are not changing dinamically. Which function is used to set up building heights locally, and can I revert from global to local heights in the current design?

I think you should not change the global/local method.

    example for global red floor:
    - floor height = 0,00
    - wall begins at = 20 ft
    - wall height = 9 ft
    - window bottom height = 23 ft
-ceiling height (upper edge) = 30 ft

    example for local red floor:
    - floor height = 20 ft
    - wall begins at = 0,00
    - wall height = 9 ft
    - window bottom height = 3 ft
-ceiling height (upper edge) = 10 ft

I didn't try now, but I guess, if you change the method, your doors and windows could be in chaos.

All wall heights are relative to their floor heights.
All wall beams are relative to their bottom wall heigt.
All window heights are relative to the floor height.

I did not check all these statements now, but I think they are correct.

  • great!! thank you for the thorough explanation.

It is a lot of good info, I'll work with it.

    Thank you Planer,
