Line weight for drawings question

    I'm interested in learning from our users what line weights you use for your printed drawings.
    I'd like to know what weight for objects such as timbers, and what weight for dimensions?
    Also, do you use different line weights for different size paper, for example 8.5x11, 11x17, 18x24, 24x36....?


    Also do you print in color?
    If so what colors do you use for each type line?

    When I draw on 24"x36" I use the North American standard line weights and text height:


    0.28 = thick line / foreground
    0.01 = thin line / background / dimensions


    3/32" = small text
    1/8" = medium text
    1/4" = large text


    Shop drawings on 11x17 I use:


    0.007 = all lines
    0.002 = hidden lines
    0.004 = dimensions


    I use all black except sometimes I use red on the dimensions for shop drawings.

    I'd still like to hear from someone about line weights for paper sizes 18x24 and 8.5x11.


    Also, if someone is using different line weights than what Jason is using and why.

    I have never changed the line weights for drawings. Only if I occasionally want a line to be very visible.


    I usually use colors for prints (but I print mostly on PDF) - but also for paper prints. I use:
    - Brown for wood and wooden items.
    - Grey for concrete.
    - Yellow for insulation.
    - Blue for steel items.
    - Grey for gypsum.
    - Green for membranes, such as floor wool paper.
    - Dark yellow for module axis lines.
    - Black for dimensions.


    - To mention some of the most common, I use.
