  • So, I've done some joinery with the "intersecting volumes" (3-7-1) command. Now I need to delete some of them, and I understand it's done by using 3-1-8 (machine only) but that seems to delete ALL the processes of a beam.
Is there a way around not needing to erase all of them??

Another thing is I never seem to be able to use 2-7-2(unite) , error message tells me "objects contains machine processes" in all instances. And 2-7-3(combine) does something - but what??

    Hi Ekeford,
    In Dicam 3-1-1 or 3-1-4

  • Hi Ekefjord,

generally, you should not use the "intersecting volumes" to create "joinery" because you miss very many options here that you would have if you use the "tools" in menu 3.

Generally, you can only delete "all" intersecting volumes. The function that Sven mentioned only works for processes you have created with the tools menu.

Attached please find page 33 of the "advanced CAD design tutorial" with a description of the intersecting volumes, including function 2-7-3

    Best regards,

  • When you want to unite two things you have to delete any processes listed in the process box to unite them.
For example, sometimes I like to show concrete walls or footings with my frames.
To create concrete footings you just draw them like timbers except you change the texture to concrete.
    As shown in "a" below.

Then you select each footing's processes box using 3-1-1 and delete any functions shown there. As shown in "b" below.

After you can unite using 2-7-2. As shown in "c" below.

So, if you want to unite two different size or shape objects you have to have no processes done to them first.

    Good luck.

  • Hi Jim

I find a good way to draw footings is to draw them as walls. I put them in the BA storey.

If then they need moving or altering it is much easier. Also it makes it very easy to draw a foundations plan, especially if you set the reference axis to the centre of the 'wall'. You can then quickly dimension to the centre of the dig, which is what most digger drivers prefer.

I also draw any brickwork walls as walls and give them a separate storey number.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

    Cheers

    Rob

Butch: " I think we lost 'em, d'you think we lost 'em?"
    Sundance: "No."
    Butch: "Neither do I."

  • Thanks for the tips.
Jens: Is there a way to get hold of the whole of that "advanced CAD design.pdf" document?
And I wish I had the more advanced version of D-CAM but, alas, as it is I have the Pro-version and we use a lot of scarf joinery and spline joinery that I have to "build" using intersecting volumes...

  • Hello Ekefjord,

if you send me a PN with your customer number, I will tell the corresponding salesman to send you a CD with the tutorial.

    Best regards,

    Jens
