  • Hi. I have this roof - almost pyramid roof. In my world this roof is made of 4 roof elements. When making the one element, I need a hip rafter (as far as I can see). But when I insert it, it always is inserted so the one hip rafter is shared by two roof surfaces. This I don't want. In each of the 4 hip lines, there should be two hip rafters - one at each side of the hip line.

    How to do that?

  • I was thinking about slanting rafters - but then I thought "no", they would not do it. But ok - I have to give it a try.

  • Ok - it worked fine! Thank's for the tip. The roof beams are not perfect - i.e. meeting each other perfectly symmetric, but there is a reason for that: The groundplan is square, but the two pairs of roof sides have slightly different angles to make this straight line in the top. But since the rafters are not going to be visible anywhere, these small differences will be covered.

  • Hi, Thorvald,
sometimes in same situation I am using separating cut (general or vertical) in Dcam. Example: 2 x bigger beam you can divide to 2 smaller beams.

This is not a good idea if you need the data of each single beam on a machine. Even without machine the solution of Jens is the better one.

  • Ok - new problem with this - or at least similar roof. The profile that should cover the ridges of the roof. First I tried to input it as a slanting rafter, but the profile was cut, so that was not a big success. Then I input it as a rafter and rotated it, to go over this edge of the roof. But the rafter, doesn't have the correct slope. So how to do that??

The top "normal" ridge of the roof can probably be done with a ridge beam.
