I have been looking around after a viewer for D-CAM. It would be good when communicating with costumers.
Is there one???

In the program a OpenGL viewer is built in - aaah maybe you are thinking for customers that don't have Dietrichs. Then I don't know.
There are some possibilities with adobe acrobat 3D viewer.
There is an optional VRML export.
VRML export is a great way to view a frame/model....
You may need to teach a client how to use a viewer. There are free downloads of viewers that plug in to your standard Internet browser.
Hope this helps.
we export to vrml, for clients. BUT we are finding that vista and SP2 for xp are causeing clients real problems in viewing the models.
a dietrich viwer would be great from our point of view.

lui
If you start the program without hardlock you can use it in demo mode. So you can use a normal version as viewer.
Joe
I think Lui's problem with using the full version without a hardlock is that once installed, it is quite difficult for someone not used to the software to navigate around the menus and icons in order to get the model in such a way as it can then be easily seen in OpenGL.
Would it be possible to issue a 'Lite' version of the software which could install with only the icons etc that were actually needed for the client to quickly activate what is to be viewed and then switch on OpenGL.
Cheers
Rob
PS Nice to see you on here Lui - Piers too.
after 6 years of dietrich I thought I might join in the forum
I've posted this in the wish list as well. not realising there was a viewer topic.
would there be a legal issue about handing out Dietrichs CDs to clients for trial versions?
I might have a chat to MB regarding this.
lui
I've spoken to MB, and he is happy for the dietrichs CD to be sent out to as many clients as you want.
I'm not finding using 3d pdf creator from print screen in Open GL very satisfactory (only seems to "like" small models, and issue with textures), but I've done a 3d dxf export and then converted it which seems much more reliable but textures (as yet) not going across - anyone know how to export textures into 3d dxf?
dxf kills all textures, export your model to vrml, then feed Acrobat 3D with it.
But: vrml makes no solids, only faces. You see it when you try to switch them off in 3d pdf.
Vielen Dank - ich versuche..
Piers
I can get 3d pdf to convert VRML file, but still no textures (beams showing as red, green, blue) - what settings are used to get textures across? If better I could call you to run through this - send me PM with number?
Thanks
Piers
I once made the settings in Acrobat and forgot them.
Now I just drag the wrl file into the Acrobat window, and as result I get a textured 3d pdf.
Der Planer
Could I e-mail you one of my wrl files to see if this brings textures into your Acrobat set-up? I've tried adding one here as an attachment but didn't accept it. Let me know your e-mail if you're willing to check this.
If this works then maybe I could see your Acrobat settings? German would be OK.
Many Thanks
Piers
